I just stumbled upon the amazing hand lettering of  Betsy Dunlap

IMG_0910I’ve always loved the art of hand lettering and this is probably my favorite that I’ve ever seen!

Someone please send me an invitation like these!  I plan on having some sort of event just to practice my calligraphy. :)

Masked love

Posted in Autumn, Halloween, Holiday, Off Topic on September 22, 2009 by highpointhouse

While searching Etsy for “Halloween” I came across this amazing seller.  I thought I would share:

Tom Banwell for Etsy.com

halloween mask

New for 2009.
This mask has a hint of an Egyptian motif. The movement of the fans held by the attendants of the pharaoh in ancient Egypt symbolized breath, and therefore life itself. This delicate mask is cut out of 3-4 oz vegetable tanned leather, then wet formed to fit a face. After drying it is dyed red. Very lightweight. Can be worn comfortably for hours. Comes with an adjustable double strand of elastic.

Hall mask 2

One grasshopper mask and one custom bug mask, green and based on submitted drawing.
Become one with the grasshopper! Wet formed of vegetable tanned 3-4 oz leather, airbrushed in a camouflage pattern in green and brown. Bug eyes are painted pearlescent. Protected with an acrylic sealer.
Lightweight and comfortable. Comes with an adjustable double strand of elastic for a secure fit. Because each mask is handmade the airbrushed colors will vary slightly from the photos.

Just in time for Halloween!

I love Halloween!  And this year I get to be a part of Spooky Woods!

SpookyWoods

Spookywoods was voted top 6 best Scream Park in America (2009) by Hauntworld.com.  Its the largest haunt in the southeast-covering over 55 acres and staffed with 240! The Travel Channel will be filming Spookywoods  September 26th for the new American Haunts Series this fall.

So if you live in the area (or are willing to travel for a good scare!) come out and see us!

Jake thinks photography sessions are all well and good…

Backyard blues.

Here are the “befores” of  our backyard.

This is the right side of our back porch and no that isn’t an art project-I’ve been power washing!

Backyard before 1

This is our Hot Tub and the backside of the garage.  It will eventually be painted red (or something).

Backyard before 2

This is the view of our back door.  Door will be painted red, the light will be replaced.

Backyard before 3

New furniture is obviously a must.

Backyard before 4

This is the worst area.  We have to get rid of that riding lawn mower…probably get a small shed at the back of the yard for storage.

Backyard before 5

This is the view from the back door.  It looks a little jungle book right now… but we are having the trees trimmed sometime soon. :)

Backyard before 6

Well, hopefully (soon) I’ll be posting some “after” pictures.  Check back!

The grass is greener on the other side.

Being a homeowner can be so stressful.  But at the end of the day we are glad that we live in a home that is paid off and we don’t ever have to worry about rent.  Plus I can paint the walls, ceiling and floors if I want and no one can say anything about it! (except Jonathan, haha)

I’m so excited about autumn but I can’t wait for spring…I can’t wait to have our yard re-seeded (Boring I know!) and I can’t wait to get a headstart on our vegetable/herb garden.  Plus next year we will be hosting several holidays(!) and most of this fall will be spent trimming/cleaning up the yard/porches/patio.  Also, we will be getting a new roof and gutters in a few weeks (and that will be one less thing on our to-do list).

Jake has been happily strutting in his new collar and he is patiently awaiting his new dog bed from allmodern.com

Alright well, I’m off to eat grapes(another thing we want to start growing!) and watch Friends. :) Later we are heading over to Jonathan’s Grandparent’s for homemade Greek spaghetti!

I’m back.

So, my computer died for a little over a week.  Thanks to Best Buy and $86 I have it back up and running. :)

And I’m back with an update.  We had the Yard Sale…turns out craigslist.com is still a way easier route.  But we got rid of a few things but overall it was a bust. :(  However, it was a BEAUTIFUL day for being outside, so I can’t complain too much.

Well, I hope to be updating soon with my porch cleaning before and after.  Power washing is fun! :)
